The Weigh Down Diet

The Weigh Down Diet is a controversial bible-based diet created by Gwen Shamblin, MS, RD. The full weight loss plan – perhaps better called a philosophy – is laid out in her book, “The Weigh Down Diet – Inspirational Way to Lose Weight and Stay Slim”. In a nutshell, this diet plan aims to help you lose weight with the help of bible teachings, filling emotional voids and improving spiritual connections. Though controversial it has gained a great deal of international popularity, with seminars Weigh Down seminars held all over the world.

How does the Weigh Down Diet work?

The Weigh Down diet works very simply – there is no calorie-counting, no forbidden foods. Weigh down dieters are simply guided to new ways of thinking about food so that they eat when they are hungry, and don’t eat to excess. The key, the diet says, is to listen to the body so that we are eating according to physical not emotional needs. Emotional and spiritual needs are instead met by prayer, meditation and bible study.

What foods can I eat with the Weigh Down Diet?

Quite simply – anything you like, so long as you try to make healthy choices, eat only when you are hungry and only enough as you need.

How much weight will I lose with Weigh Down?

There is no specific weight loss goal or amount that you can expect to lose per week. The idea is that weight loss is a natural by-product of new ways of thinking about food and new eating habits.

Pros and cons of the Weigh Down Diet

The Good:

Disciplined users will achieve a steady weight loss if they are able to recognize and stop their emotional eating triggers. By retraining emotional responses and eating habits, the Weigh Down diet establishes healthy eating patterns that will lead to permanent weight loss. With no special requirements and no essential foods eliminated, this is also a weight loss plan that can be shared by the whole family, easily and safely.

The Bad:

The Weigh Down diet requires a high level of self-discipline, and has few specific guidelines. Many people find it difficult to lose weight without specific guidelines to follow. Also many users find that they have a difficult time really controlling portions and choosing the right foods since there is little guidance in the way of specific food menus.
