

Having an accurate target weight to aim for can be a big help when you're dieting.
When I first started getting serious about losing weight I worked out how much I needed to lose, which was quite a bit, and divided that number into smaller sub-targets. I didn't think about the overall amount I had to lose, only the immediate sub-target, which was a much more manageable number.

So, although they calculate your "mass" they cannot tell you how much of it is fat. For instance, a bodybuilder will have a high BMI even though they actually have very little fat.
